Board Members:
Lydia Glassie - Founder, School Principal, and Board Member
Lydia Glassie is the founder and principal of KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy. Ms. Glassie taught and oversaw the reading curriculum at a number of elementary schools in the Baltimore City School District. She then began working with Johns Hopkins University training and advising school staff on the implementation of the Success for All reading program. She moved to San Francisco to work for a small educational company and as the Director of the largest department in the company, she hired and managed 40 people who consulted with schools in six western states. Before joining KIPP, she developed curriculum for a year with the same educational company.

Karen Dhillon - Board Member
Karen Dhillon recently joined the board of KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy and currently works with Morgan Stanley's Public Finance department. Previous to joining Morgan Stanley, Karen completed a two year commitment with Teach for America serving as a middle school math teacher in the Bronx, while concurrently completing her Masters of Science degree in Childhood Education. During this experience, Karen realized that she wanted to continue to make an impact on public education, but from a different role where she could develop and draw on her business skills. Karen's clients at Morgan Stanley include many school districts and community college districts, allowing her to gain additional insight into how schools meet their financing needs. She learned about the position while completing the Stanford Graduate School of Business Summer Institute. Karen also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and spent a year working as a
counselor in a locked psychiatric facility in Los Angeles.
Nathaniel Durant - President
Nathaniel Durant has been the Managing Director of Overlook Capital, LLC-a consulting company focused on helping small and medium-sized companies to improve operations since 2002. Prior to Overlook Capital, Nathaniel was Vice President at eGain Communications (Nasdaq: EGAN)-an enterprise software company providing Global 2000 firms with eService CRM solutions. Nathaniel holds an MBA from Stanford University where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. He holds degrees in International Relations and French Civilization from Brown University. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Winnie Fink - Secretary
Winnie Fink has over fourteen years of experience teaching, training, managing teams and implementing projects in the education field. She taught 4th/5th grade in Houston Independent School District as a Teach For America corps member and last year, taught 5th grade math at KIPP Oak College Prep. Winnie also worked with the reading reform program Success for All (SFA) directly supervising a team of consultants and collaboratively managing a department of 45 consultants, who trained, observed and coached teachers and administrators in instructional and management strategy. Additionally, she had a stint managing the client operations arm of a small, Bay Area education company. Winnie is a die-hard University of Kansas Jayhawk and holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Psychology.
Jen'I' Lafaurie - Treasurer
Jen'I' Lafaurie is the Chief Financial Officer at VolunteerMatch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping everyone find a great place to volunteer. VolunteerMatch offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. Jen'I' directs the financial activities required to support daily operations and organizational growth decision. Prior to joining VolunteerMatch in 2002, Jen'I' worked as a Senior Consultant with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, advising private organizations on business strategy and process redesign. Jen'I' holds an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in International Business from the University of California, Berkeley.
David A. Levitt – Board Member
David Levitt received his B.A., with distinction, in 1993 from Cornell University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D., cum laude, in 1996 from Harvard Law School, where he served as Technical Editor of the Environmental Law Journal. His practice focuses on the representation of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, with an emphasis on political advocacy issues, program-related investments, and nonprofit corporate governance. David served as Secretary of the Exempt Organizations Committee of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association from 2003 to 2005. Currently he is Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Intermediate Sanctions of the Exempt Organizations Committee. David also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco, teaching a nonprofit legal issues course in the College of Professional Studies. He is a member of the bar in the states of California and New York.
Jennifer Min - Board Member
Jennifer Min is the Chair of the Mathematics Department at San Francisco University High School, a co-educational, college preparatory, independent secondary school for grades nine through twelve. Jennifer teaches various math courses as well as an Advanced Placement Economics course for seniors. Prior to joining University, Jennifer was a consultant at Bain & Company working primarily with information technology companies in the Bay Area. Jennifer also worked as a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York, NY. She earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Applied Economics from Cornell University.
Nicole Petty - Board Member
Nicole Petty is a senior product manager for medical devices at Medtronic, Inc. She previously worked at Pharsight Corporation, where she consulted to pharmaceutical companies to help design clinical programs. Nicole also has extensive teaching experience, including teaching decision sciences at Mastery Charter High School in Philadelphia, English Studies as a Fulbright Fellow in Germany, and an Introductory German Conversation class at Stanford’s German house. Nicole received her BS in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University; MS in Engineering Economic Systems (specifically medical decision analysis) from Stanford University; and MBA from Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, where she was a Ford Motor Company Fellow for management and technology.
Gerald Richards - Board Member
Gerald Richards is Director of Development & Operations as well as the Interim Executive Director of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). In these positions, Gerald manages the program staff, day-to-day operations and fundraising, as well as works with the national leadership on long-term strategic planning. Gerald has over fifteen years of management and development experience across the nation. Prior to joining NFTE, he served in a number of management and development positions with University of California, San Francisco, J. David Gladstone Institutes, United Negro College Fund, Chicago Panel on Social Policy, and the Cradle Foundation. Gerald has an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Film Studies from Wesleyan University, Connecticut.
Kevin Stone - Advisory Board Member
Kevin Stone is a founder and Senior Director of Products at BeVocal, Inc., a silicon-valley based company developing call automation solutions for telecommunication companies and enterprises. Kevin is responsible for the product management of BeVocal's Foundation platform and the marketing of BeVocal's hosting solutions. Kevin has significant product management and technical expertise in the areas of telecom systems, IP telephony, and wireless communications systems design. Kevin received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
